Life101 Adulting Series
Welcome to my Life101 series, following the lessons I teach my ragtag bunch of high school students in their Adult Roles and Responsibilities elective!
How to Adult
This is my second time teaching this class after building it last year. It is a semester-long class in the Practical Arts department.
The first quarter we focus on character development, using the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey as our textbook. The second quarter teaches financial literacy principles. I use Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum to guide that portion.
I emailed my students and parents this week about the supplies and syllabus. One parent wrote back, “I think I’ll be looking at my student’s notes!” Another new teacher told me she wishes she could take the class — now, as an adult, because she feels like she missed stuff!
I’m am starting my first-ever blog series covering some of the lessons we learn in our quest to be functioning members of society.
Check out the next post – Adulting: Body Language and Communication. “Adulting” is now a verb – to adult, perhaps because doing it successfully seems rarer among my millennial cohort. If there’s something you don’t see in my series, let me know so I can include it!
